Roleplay Etiquette
1) Getting started
a few small, simple things you can do to fit in well in the forum are as follow :
a)join in the chat and talk to us. We're happy to see you and getting to know you ooc is a good thing ! Plus we can discuss potential thread ideas and give you informations you may lack.
b) Introduce yourself in the forums ; visit the OOC forums ! We have a thread there to introduce yourself a little, as well as small forum games, discussions on random things and generally a more relaxed place for people to talk, that's not as fast paced as the chat.
c) Read all the rules and lore ; you'll find a lot in this subforum. It'll give you a good idea of what can get you in trouble, and what is best not to do.
d) Post what we call a plotter/shipper; a thread where you offer roleplays pretty much. Just say what you'd like to rp, what your character is like etc ; feel free to also answer to other's threads like that.
e)Make an open thread. If your character is new to town, why not show them getting in ? If they're already established, why not have them out so others can get involved with them ? In the same way ; feel free to answer to other open threads !
2) How to create a thread
You may want to jump right in and start roleplaying with people ; after all, you love that character and just know yours will be their best friend forever ! Only it may not be as simple as that. Here’s a few DOs and DON’Ts on how to approach rp and generally behave on the forum, in order to make everyone happy !
DO:
- ASK before you start a thread with a specific character. They might look super cool but the RPer might be very busy right now.
- COMMUNICATE with the users you want to RP with. Discuss what direction you’d like to take and make sure they are happy and comfortable with your ideas
- Decide on a POSTING ORDER. If your thread has multiple characters involved this order will make sure everyone has an equal chance to respond
- TAG the RPer involved. Using @-username- at the beginning of your first post with alert all users involved that the thread has started. If they are online in the chat, however, you may just prefer to let them know there.
- TITLE your threads as follow: [Open/name(s) of character(s) you rp with] Title here, so people can easily see if they can or not join in.
DON’T
- HARASS another user just because they are replying slower than you hoped. Real life is more important than this RP, respect that. Just politely ask for an estimated time.
- CREATE NEW LORE WITHOUT ASKING. If your thread is likely to impact on aspects of the forum or this world’s lore contact the admin first.
- LEAVE a thread without warning, this is rude to the other person putting time and effort into their replies for you. Just politely tell them why you feel you need to end the thread.
- INVOLVE characters without the RPers consent. Always contact them before beginning a thread.
3) What to do after you've started rping
So now you're rping, and getting along well with people. Here are a few more things you can and should do to keep things going smoothly !
- If for some reasons you must be away from the forum for a while, post in the absence thread ! It's an efficient way to know when you'll be back, and warn your partners so they don't wait in you and get frustrated.
- Feel free to read other's threads ! They might refer to it when they post in one with yours, and it's always entertaining.
-Do not delete your answers! If you dislike what you wrote, you can edit it, but discuss it with your partner first! They may have started to work on an answer, so it's best to make sure it's fine.
